出版社を立ち上げるとき、実は一番時間をかけたのは名前でした。
どんな本をつくるのか。どんな姿勢で続けていくのか。それを自分たち自身に問い続けられる名前でなければいけないと思ったからです。
「Blue Moon（蒼い月）」という言葉には、ふたつの意味があります。
ひとつは天文学的な意味で、ひと月のうちに満月が二度巡るとき、その二度目の満月を指す言葉です。周期の関係で数年に一度しか起こらない珍しい現象だとされています。
もうひとつは、そこから生まれた英語の慣用句です。“Once in a blue moon”「ごく稀に」「めったに起こらないこと」という奇跡を連想させる意味で使われます。
Blue Moon Press という名前には、めったに出会えない一冊を世に送り出したいという思いを込めています。
めったに出会えない稀少で価値のある一冊。
奇跡のような瞬間を形にした一冊。
作者にとってその人生を変える一冊。
そして、手に取った人の心の中で力強く輝き続ける一冊。
それが、Blue Moon Press から生まれる本です。
大量に並ぶ本ではなく、数は多くなくても、深く届く本。Blue Moon Press という名前は、そうした本だけをつくり続けたいという自分たちへの静かな意思表示でもあります。時間をかけて向き合い、対話を重ね、試行錯誤を繰り返しながら、一冊をかたちにしていく。その営み自体が、すでに珍しくなりつつある時代なのだと思います。
夜の月は、声高に何かを主張することはありません。けれど、気づけばそこにあり、空を照らしています。その光は、誰かの心の中で、長く、力強く残り続けるものだと思います。私たちの出版も、そうありたいと思っています。
強く売り込むのではなく、必要な人のもとへ自然に届いていくこと。時間をかけて向き合った結果として、誰かの中に長く生き続ける本をつくること。出版社は、本をつくるだけの存在ではなく、世の中に価値あるものを残していく、才能あるアーティストとともに歩んでいく存在でありたい。その責任を引き受けることが、私たちの使命だと考えています。

When we decided to establish a publishing house, the thing we spent the most time on was, in fact, the name.
What kind of books we want to make.
What kind of attitude we want to maintain.
We felt that the name had to be something that would continue to question us about those things.
The phrase “Blue Moon” has two meanings.
One is astronomical.
When two full moons occur within a single month, the second one is called a “blue moon.”
Because of the lunar cycle, this happens only once every few years and is considered a rare phenomenon.
The other meaning comes from the English idiom:
“Once in a blue moon.”
It means something extremely rare — something that feels almost like a miracle.
In the name Blue Moon Press, we have placed a simple wish:
to bring into the world books that are rarely encountered.
Books that are rare, precious, and meaningful.
Books that become a turning point in the author’s life.
And books that continue to shine strongly in the hearts of those who encounter them.
Those are the kinds of books we want to publish at Blue Moon Press.
Not books produced in large quantities,
but books that may be few in number and yet reach deeply.
The name Blue Moon Press is a quiet declaration to ourselves —
that we will continue to make only those kinds of books.
To take time.
To engage in dialogue.
To repeat trial and error.
To shape one book with care.
That process itself is becoming increasingly rare in our time.
The moon does not raise its voice.
Yet it is always there, illuminating the night sky.
Its light lingers quietly but powerfully in the human heart.
That is how we hope our publishing will be as well.
